My name is Kayla La France and I am a native of Washington State.
I am a student at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, where I study Engineering physics and mathematics. My life’s passion and goal is to work with manned space flight as an astronaut and in the field of space technology design.
As an avid hockey player, I love to be at the rink and take photos of friends playing in the rec. leagues.
The big question I get is why photography is so important to me, when it has no bearing at all in what I dream of doing. There are 2 reasons why it is important to me, and both reason revolve around my Grandpa La France
I was extremely close to my grandfather before he passed away on Nov 28th 2003. I grew up in his shadow and loved spending as much time with him as I could. I have many fine memories of following his every footstep when I was a kid, up into my teenage years when he taught me how to drive a stick shift, and build a Model A Ford.
That is all I have though, Memories. My family never was big in taking pics, and that is a regret I get to live with. I only have two… just two photos of our 18 years together…
Photo 1: my first Christmas at 8 months old…
Photo2: my graduation, 6 months before he passed away.
18 year in-between of memories, love, time together and NO photos. The Ironic part of it is, my grandpa gave me my first camera about 2 years before he died. I took pics of a few newsboy concerts and the moon but never got into photography.
When grandpa died, and I found out that there was nothing to catalogue my time with him, my heart was crushed, and I vowed to not let that happen again.
I no longer use the camera he gave me, but use a digital camera, and a video camera. And they go with me everywhere. I will not lose another person in my life, and stand alone with out physical examples of the moments I cherish in my heart. Nor will I allow people that love me to have no photos if something were to happen to me.
I take photos in grandpa’s memory; I take photos to remember my world and what I have done. I take photos so that I never have to live with the pain of losing ones history.
So you will see a lot of photos of my family on these pages, and of the things I do and places I see.
Come with me and see my life in photos.
Memories that will never be forgotten.
And lives that will never cease to exist.
